As a humble and inconspicuous initiative of our visionary Vice President and then Regional Director, Sri N. D. Grover, DAV Public School, CCL, Giridih was founded in 1988 amidst the serene natural beauty of plants and hills to cater to the educational needs of the children of the CCL employees, bridge the yawning gaps of illiteracy, and dispel the darkness of ignorance and superstition. The school was inaugurated on 5th February 1989 by the then State Minister for Coal, Government of India, Mr. C. K. Jafar Shariff, in the presence of a large congregation of public representatives, senior officials of Coal India and the district administration, DAV dignitaries, benefactors, and well-wishers.
Though the school started functioning with only 228 students on its rolls, today its strength has grown to more than 2000. The school was affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi up to Class X and Class XII in 1992 and 1997 respectively, and since then it has carved a niche for itself in the field of education, guided by the vision and values of its founding leaders, Sri N. D. Grover and Sri L. R. Saini. This crusade against illiteracy and ignorance, launched by Sri N. D. Grover, has been successfully carried forward and elevated to new heights by all our well-wishers and stakeholders. The institution continues to set new benchmarks of success by inculcating a spirit of devotion, dutifulness, and honesty.
Today, the school is equipped with modern amenities essential for nurturing the inherent talents of students—the future architects of the nation. Spread over a vast area at Jogitand, the institution offers comprehensive education from Bal Vatika to Class XII, with its seven blocks, four houses, and Science and Commerce streams at the Plus Two (+2) level. It boasts well-equipped and modernized laboratories, including upgraded Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Computer, and activity labs, along with a CBT Laboratory and Tata Class-Edge Smart Classrooms that promote technology-enabled learning. A well-stocked library, upgraded playground, and enhanced sports facilities further strengthen the school’s strong focus on holistic development, enabling students to grow into confident, competent, and responsible citizens.
